Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture
Q+A JANUARY 2026
The Jedariart programme brings artists together to add vibrancy and meaning to Doha’s city walls through murals and street art. During the Qatar-USA Year of Culture 2021, Jedariart crossed continents to transform city walls across the US into canvases for cultural dialogue. Alongside Fatima Alsharshani, five more Qatari artists joined forces with American counterparts to bring new perspectives to public spaces.
Mubarak Al-Malik
Miami, Florida
Renowned Qatari artist Mubarak Al-Malik created one of his signature pieces depicting women wearing the batoola – a traditional face-covering historically worn by Bedouin women – during Art Basel Miami Beach 2021.
Mubarak Al-Thani
San Francisco, California
Qatari artist Mubarak Al Thani collaborated with Wes Wong to create Mission 974, a mural merging the skylines of San Francisco and Doha at the 24th Street and Mission Street BART Plaza Station. The project was a partnership with Mission Art 415.
Muna Al-Bader
Houston, Texas
Muna Al-Bader painted Cultural Bonds, a mural at the University of Houston campus that illustrates half a century of cultural ties and diplomatic relations between the US and Qatar. In the work, a young girl wearing traditional Arab attire admires the merged skylines of Houston and Doha.
Ahmed Al Jufairi
Washington DC
Emerging Qatari artist Ahmed Al Jufairi painted Flower – a mural that represents seeds blossoming into kindness, knowledge and enlightenment. The work was completed in partnership with the Qatar Embassy and the International Student House in Washington.
Nada Khozestani
Jersey City, New Jersey
Nada Khozestani painted a mural entitled Side by Side, inspired by her deep love of Qatari culture. The resulting work expresses the beauty of the saturated colours found in daily life in Qatar and draws inspiration from elements found in nature.
